Protect our bushland:
Stop the sale of invasive weeds
Three-quarters of Australia’s worst weeds began as garden plants. We can’t keep selling species that escape, overrun the bush and push our wildlife to the brink. Add your name to stop it.
Australians know weeds like lantana and blackberries are choking our streams and bushland. But what most people don’t realise is that the next invasion could be growing in their own backyard.
An incredible three-quarters of Australia’s worst weeds began as garden plants – sold legally in nurseries and online to everyday gardeners who had no idea they were buying a future environmental disaster.
Every year, these escaped plants spread further into our forests, wetlands and national parks. Once they take hold, they’re almost impossible to remove.
Right now, the system expects shoppers to magically know which plants may spread out of control. You shouldn’t need a botany degree just to buy something from your local nursery.
That’s why we urgently need governments to step in. And while political momentum is growing, it’s nowhere near fast enough for the scale of the threat.
It’s 2025 – and it is shocking that you can still walk into a nursery and legally buy a plant capable of overwhelming native habitats, fuelling fires, or wiping out wildlife.
That’s why your voice matters.
When thousands of people speak up together, governments listen. We’ve seen it time and again – public pressure is what forces regulatory change, shuts down harmful loopholes, and pushes nature to the top of the agenda.
By adding your name, you’re helping create the pressure needed to finally end the sale of invasive weeds and protect the bush for future generations.
We’re calling on state and federal governments to stop the spread – but they won’t act without clear community backing.
Add your name and help us reach 100,000 signatures. Your voice could be the one that tips this into real change.
