Act to protect nature
from the threat of invasive weeds

Australians know that weeds like lantana or blackberries are choking our streams and bushland. But what many people don’t realise is that their own garden or fish pond could be a ticking time bomb.
An astounding three-quarters of all listed weeds in Australia are escaped garden plants, sold legally to unsuspecting shoppers in nurseries or online.
These weedy plants have already contributed to at least four extinctions.
The current system of self-regulation expects passionate home gardeners to have a botany degree or pay close attention to warnings in fine print to stop their garden plants from spreading into the surrounding landscape.
We need urgent action. And while there’s growing political momentum to act, it’s nowhere near fast enough to match the scale of the problem.
It’s 2025 — it shouldn’t be possible to visit your local nursery and pick up a weed that could overwhelm native habitats and degrade the bush.
We’re calling on the state and federal governments to stop the spread. But we need your voice behind us.

Your donation is a lifeline for Aussie wildlife.
Invasive species destroy our natural places and transform the landscape, leaving our native animals without shelter or food and natural systems destroyed. You can help create an Australia where our unique wildlife is safe in flourishing protected areas.
