Take action to end the ban on feral animal control in NSW National Parks
Please submit an urgent email to the NSW Premier, Opposition Leader and other key decision makers calling for an end to the current ban on feral animal control in all NSW National Parks.
Millions of feral deer, pigs, horses and goats are pushing our precious places and wildlife to the edge. They are eroding streams, stopping forests from regenerating and outcompeting endangered native wildlife.
But right now, in a knee-jerk reaction to complaints from Ray Hadley on 2GB, the NSW Government has secretly placed an indefinite ‘pause’ on all shooting of feral animals in NSW National Parks!
These invasive species are also a major risk pathway for the spread of diseases, a major agricultural pest and the cause of numerous motor vehicle accidents.
This pause will have serious consequences for feral animal numbers across the state, particularly with all the extra feed available due to the wet weather. It also undermines Australia’s preparations for foot and mouth disease, with feral pigs and deer major vectors for the disease if it reaches Australia.
We need urgent action to overturn this ban and let National Parks staff continue to do their jobs safely, professionally and humanely.
With the damage caused by the expanding plague of feral deer, pigs, goats and horses, every day counts. We can still save our precious native plants and animals but we need to act now.
