History has been made in Kosciuszko -
now let’s thank the MPs who made it possible
Your message of thanks will show that NSW stands with nature – and that protecting Kosciuszko must remain a political priority.
For years, people were told it couldn’t be done. That the feral horse crisis in Kosciuszko was too political, too polarising, too hard to fix.
But because thousands of people like you refused to give up, we’ve just won one of the biggest environmental victories in NSW history.
Last night, Parliament voted to repeal the outdated law that put feral horses ahead of the southern corroboree frog, the broad-toothed rat and other threatened alpine species. For the first time in years, Kosciuszko finally has a fighting chance.
This didn’t happen because politicians suddenly changed their minds. It happened because you – and more than 11,000 supporters who demanded action, signed petitions, shared the truth, and refused to let this crisis be ignored.
Now, we need to do something just as important: thank the MPs who stood up for Kosciuszko: The Hon. Chris Minns – Premier of NSW, The Hon. Penny Sharpe, Mr James Griffin, The Hon. Steve Whan, Mr Jeremy Buckingham, Ms Sue Higginson, The Hon. Mark Speakman and Dr Joe McGirr.
Across party lines, they withstood enormous political pressure, pushed back against misinformation, and voted for nature.
Your message will:
- Show them their courage mattered
- Reinforce that NSW voters want feral horse impacts addressed
- Build momentum for the next steps: removing horse retention zones and reducing numbers to allow ecosystems to recover
This repeal is a turning point – but the work isn’t over.
Thousands of feral horses still remain, trampling alpine streams, destroying fragile vegetation and pushing endangered wildlife closer to extinction. The Minister now has the power to act, and public support will be crucial in the months ahead.
Take a moment to thank the MPs who made this win possible. Your message today strengthens the fight to fully restore Kosciuszko tomorrow.
