Aussie islands need your help!
Protect our islands from invasive species.
How to help | I’m ready to donate!
Australia has more than 8,200 islands and many of our islands are plagued by invasive species.
Invasive species put our precious native wildlife and places at risk. From the rats that arrived with the early settlers to the invasive ants that have more recently slipped through our quarantine system.
But, Lord Howe Island offers a beacon of hope; becoming the world’s largest inhabited island to become rodent-free. This amazing feat led to the endangered woodhen population doubling in just one year.
There are now over 1,600 Lord Howe woodhens compared to four years ago when there were only 250. This shows the effectiveness of eradicating invasive species.
Islands are critical habitats for around one-third of Australia’s threatened animal species, which is why the Invasive Species Council is working to protect them. This includes:
- partnering with communities
- preventing new invasive species threats
- promoting research
- supporting eradication efforts on islands like Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island
Your support is crucial for these efforts.
Removing the threat of invasive species on our islands is a unique opportunity to prevent the extinction of many species and restore healthy island ecosystems. Both are important if we are to start a wildlife revival and create an island of hope.
The wildlife we are seeking to protect cannot speak up for themselves. They need people like you to give testament and bear witness for them. Help influence others and spread the word.
Donate today, donate for a wildlife revival.
Donations $2 and over are tax-deductible for Australian taxpayers. The Invasive Species Council is an Australian registered charity.
