A joint response by the Invasive Species Council and the Australian Marine Conservation Society to an Oct 2014 issues paper and Feb 2015 discussion paper prepared by the federal Agriculture Department.
The response highlights the threat to marine biodiversity from invasive species, particularly from ballast water and biofouling.
The response makes 13 recommendations that include introducing regulations to limit the risk posed by ballast water and biofouling, improving monitoring and surveillance for marine pests, better coordination of research, introducing a marine pests education program and improving governance, public participation and incursion responses.
