Fire ants are one of the world’s most harmful pests.
They are three times more deadly than Australia’s most venomous insect and are spreading across the country.
Fire ants can raft together during floods, hide in potted plants, and even stow away in cargo containers and packages.
They have been found in the Sunshine Coast, northern NSW, and the Murray Darling Basin. Multiple outbreaks of fire ants indicate that we are approaching a point where we may not be able to prevent a continent-wide spread. Their rapid increase poses a serious threat to wildlife, potentially leading to significant population declines and extinctions.
Governments are not moving quickly enough to prevent a nationwide fire ant disaster. Delayed and insufficient government funding is bringing us closer to a situation where we are unable to avoid a life sentence with these tiny killers.
This is our last chance to stop them before it spirals out of control.
With your help we can call governments to account to do their job and fund the fire ant eradication before it’s too late.
Please donate to stop these tiny killers and help save our wildlife, natural places and lifestyles.
Donations $2 and over are tax-deductible for Australian taxpayers. The Invasive Species Council is an Australian registered charity.
