The invasive species mega threat is worse than ever. The recent explosion of red fire ants threatens more wildlife, potentially causing massive population declines and further extinctions.
Some of our iconic animals, such as the platypus, koala, echidna and loggerhead turtles, could be attacked by these deadly fire ants. They swarm, sting and kill, leaving a trail of destruction in their path.
The urgency of invasives-led extinction crisis cannot be overstated – animals at grave risk of going extinct within decades include the Kroombit tinker frog, central rock-rat and the southern corroboree frog in NSW. The numbat and mountain pygmy possum aren’t far behind.
But with our track record of wins for nature – and with your help-we can make a difference. Together, we can ensure governments prioritise action on invasive species and save wildlife from extinction.
Let’s not miss another moment to protect Australian wildlife.
