Janet Cross, Townsville Yellow Crazy Ant Taskforce Volunteer

About Us  |  Our people

Janet has been a naturalist for more than 30 years and has a special interest in birds.

She is a long-term member of Birdlife Australia and a great believer in citizen science and holistic approaches to solving environmental issues.

Janet is an important part of our Townsville Yellow Crazy Ant Taskforce team and is working with local communities to help raise awareness about the threats yellow crazy ants pose to the natural environment, pets and people.

Yellow crazy ants are one of the world’s worst invasive species. Capable of forming super colonies, they threaten our tropical north, including the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and the dry tropics, and carry huge social, environmental and financial impacts.

Janet is working with the local community in Nome, just south of Townsville, to help eradicate and prevent the spread of yellow crazy ants in this area.

Yellow crazy ants have been present in and around Nome since 2008, but our taskforce team and the City of Townsville are getting on top of the situation.
